And another book

My books are here, all the pages are in the right order, cover looks great, website is updated...So if you want to purchase a copy please go to www.crowd-pleasers.net and head for the link cleverly marked 'book'.

Details are 'More about the song' - Poems by Rachel Fox (Crowd-pleasers Press). Prices, stockists etc. all on the website. I have had one order through MySpace already and I only put it up a couple of hours ago! See all that time online hasn't been wasted...

I am quite excited...and a bit freaked out...my usual state really...

Anyone wanting to blag a free copy for any reason (reviewing purposes, swap me something, poverty...) feel free to contact me through here or my email - author@crowd-pleasers.net .

Thanks for reading this far...

Congratulations! Well done.

Perhaps you will inspire me yet to get off my glutus maximus and do something with my writing other than hoard it to myself...or make others read it on my blog. :)

Thanks people! Lots of work to do now though...any ideas for places that might stock it greatly received. Whilst I hope to sell some over t'internet and at readings I would still like it in as many bookshops/other places as I can manage.

So far it is in Scottish Poetry Library (Edinburgh), Oathlaw Pottery & Gallery (Forfar, Angus) and Henry Hogg's (Montrose) and that's without really starting my campaign! I will be contacting all my other postcard stockists this week to see who wants to sell it...but I am always looking for new places. The book looks so great - just how I imagined it - that I know people will pick it up at least...after that...it's all about taste...

Speaking of which, Sorlil...Ken's John Travolta comment on your blog made me laugh out loud. Talk about changing the tone!

I'm glad you used that graphic on the cover. I always liked running across it on your site.

I'm looking forward to getting my copy. I'm will, of course, pass comment on it and that's worrying me a little because a) I've never reviewed a book of poems before and b) I've never actually read a book of poems all the way through - now there's a confession for you. But we'll see what we can do.

Ah, Jim...confessions are always welcome. Plus I think most poetry books are better read a couple of poems here, a couple of poems there. I know some are written to be read more...like a novel (if you like) but that's certainly not true for all poetry. A really good poem is like a whole book on its own in a way...at least I think it should be. So why put them in a book altogether? Lots of reasons...too many to name right now.

As for reviews...as someone who has reviewed books and been a journalist of sorts in the past it's impossible not to wonder what reviewers will make of it. The negative criticisms I am not looking forward to include (a) 'a nice light book of performance poetry' (from people who flick through, look at a couple of the shorter ones, don't like my punctuation habits, object to any kind of poetry other than their own...), (b) 'a good editor would have helped this book' (I know there are things a literary editor type person would not have included...about half of the poems probably...maybe more...but I don't write for literary editors or academics specifically...I write for me and for people/readers/listeners right across the board) and (c) 'this is nothing new' (I'm not so sure...I have been involved in a little interchange about experimental poetry over on a blog by someone called David Morley...I got to it via Jane Holland's Raw Light. My point was that 'experimental' means different things to different people. This book is my experiments...mixing funny and profound..I hope..mixing genres...making it easy to read for a wider audience...which includes me...all kinds of other strands...taking the poets I like into account and then moving it on my own way...).

Anyhow this is going on a bit...

Wow wow wow. Huge congratulations. I can only imagine how excited you are. Well done.

I am excited...bit all over the place but luckily the daily business of family life keeps me down to earth too (post out a book, do the ironing, post out a book, wipe up dog wee...our pup is now 11 weeks old...that is the real pup...not the girl like a pup...).
I've had a lot of great feedback already about the look of the book...now to hear what people make of the insides...of the poems...of the whole thing!

Great back cover poem

Andy M

Rachel Fox said...

Thanks Andy M...which Andy M are you? One I know who works with someone else I know? Or more mysterious than that?

That back cover poem came to me whilst dogwalking...as many things do. I am not a fan of blurbs or author photos or any of that stuff so I was really pleased when I thought of that little alternative. It's small but it says a lot and I'm really proud of it so am glad you like it.
