Big Stevie – Day 3

Today's Wonder track is 'Living for the City' (weren't we just talking about the country/city divide...back here?).

And this song was used (in a cover/remix/mash-up thing) to great effect in the movie New Jack City (Mario van Peebles 1991).

The film looks pretty dated now but it was OK (if not amazing) in its time (and Wesley Snipes made a great godfather of crack). There's a a trailer for the film here and the whole mash-up business by Troop/Levert feat Queen Latifah is right here:

It's all in the game, y'all. And indeed school holidays start here today...

Whoo Hoo! My second favourite Stevie track! Thanks for an inspired start to a busy day.
Last day here for us - Pantomime followed by Awards ceremony this afternoon. Let the holidays commence! Most of which I'll spend working out how to operate the i-phone which arrived in the post today (courtesy of work). I'm actually scared to touch it.

Oh I love that Stevie track. Reminds me of my student days, squahed in the abck of an old open top morris minor driving to some obsure gig. drunk on nothing but life, with packs of ginger beer and at best woodpecker cider!

Just call me Blog DJ (not to be sung to tune of 'Rock DJ' by Robbie Williams please!).

I do believe that this is my favouritest Stevie song. :)

I love his gruff voice after the drama.

(PS I know what you mean about Barack...)

PPS I often use this as an example great of a great opening couplet. Rhyming "Mississippi" with "pretty" makes me smile.

I'm more of a fan than ever this week after listening to Wonder non-stop (almost). I genuinely feel sorry for people who don't enjoy at least some of his music (not that they'll care!).

I saw a friend on the bus for the first time in ages and we spoke about Glasto. He *hates* Stevie. How?! It's just wrong, wrong, wrong... *sigh*

Let's be incredibly self-righteous and pity these poor people with a pat on their head.

Yes. Let's.
Sure, SW's had one or two really cheesey moments (and there are songs of his that I really don't like) but in a long career that's going to happen with almost every artist. His best is very, very good and there's a lot of it!
