Tuesday Song – and here's Thom

The Monday Poem is still there if you want to read it. In the meantime I'm moving on to a Tuesday song.

You might remember that my Mark is quite a Radiohead fan (and I've written about that band here and here). Mark also listens, quite regularly, to the solo album that Radiohead's Thom Yorke put out in 2006 ('The Eraser'). I remember it was up for the Mercury Prize that year and Yorke performed one of the tracks live on the awards show and it was brilliant (the track, the performance, the ability to turn a poxy awards show into something altogether more fantastic). You can see that performance here (who won that year? Arctic Monkeys says google) but the song from Yorke's album that has well and truly seeped into my mind this week is this one:

The lyrics (more or less...) are here.

Now I'm off to go and do some cleaning. Oh and I must email some questions to Liz Gallagher for her book blog tour thing.

Baking and cleaning frenzy for me too today!
Will come back for Thom (you know me and Radiohead) - and I have never shaken the memory of that video in which he sings the song in the filling-up diving helmet. It haunts me.

Haunted by the Yorke...I shouldn't think you're alone there!

Banish it with thoughts of tiptoeing through tulips with Mears (or similar). I wonder what music he likes...

It was one of the ones I posted on here back in February. I love it. Sometimes simple videos are the best (as in simple ideas...I shouldn't think it was very simple to make!).

Dare I tell you that I really don't know Radiohead, although Dominic is always raving about them. Good luck with the cleaning - the trouble is that the minute you have finished it life happens and the whole place needs doing again. Best wishes. Licks from Tess to Zoe.

Yes, Weaver and I have a poem just about that problem with cleaning! It's on my website (under poems, under writing, called 'at all levels').
Don't worry...I don't clean very much! I did some hoovering then had a nice long dogwalk in the rain (with the dog!).

Oh and my Mum famously once said (when we were listening to Radiohead) 'what's that horrible noise?'.

I was very good and I listened, twice, but no, still not converted. I like your mother a lot.

Apropos of a very earlier discussion, BBC1 10.35pm tonight is "Make Me White", a documentary on the skin lightening industry.
Bizarrely, a similar-themed programme on Channel 4 at 10pm.

Oh, sorry, thanks Propellerhead, but maybe not tonight.

I listened to the T Yorke solo album when M first got it but it did nothing for me. It's only now (what - maybe 2 years later?) that I am starting to like some of it. It's not my first choice, it doesn't leap out at me shouting 'I'm for you, I'm for you!' but in the end I can really love it too. There are things about TY that I do really like - the way he uses his voice, some of its sounds, his lack of celeb crap...

After the Monday challenge I don't know if I dare open another music video! Im ignorant of Radiohead but think it's not my type of music.
I took to the sanity of a Poetry Doubles last night - very good it was too.
Taking the dog for a walk - great. Cleaning the house - boring, very boring. There's a very good sign in a friend's house - "I cleaned the house yesterday. Sorry you missed it."

Hi Wigeon
It's funny...I almost kind of liked that Monday Poem music yesterday. I probably wouldn't choose to listen to it much (mainly because these days I tend to listen to music whilst doing something else like cooking or ironing) but I did like something about it and it certainly seemed to work on the 'making my brain be more visual' front. Which is interesting.

I really don't do that much cleaning. Just enough.

Hi BJE
Our library doesn't keep cds or dvds anymore. Shame! It was a good way of trying new things.
