Some singing

Just back from the folk club and I really should go to bed. The guest tonight was Texan Katy Moffatt (now resident of California...she is touring though and you can find songs and dates here). She's been singing and recording for years but I'm afraid to say I'd never heard of her before. Here she is with a quite lo-tech video clip (it's a lovely song about a girl and her gun...tongue in cheek, I'm quite sure).

Don't tell her, but there's a spider sat down beside her!

Do you mean those things sticking out of the guitar case? A spider lying on its back and waving its legs in the air?

Me too and it's not my style at all!

She sang lots of different styles of songs last night and though someone did say to me 'her voice isn't as good as it used to be' it still sounded pretty good to me. There was more than a hint of Bonnie Raitt (plus she sang 'Love me like a man' that Raitt is well known for) and it did make me ponder, yet again, how some people get the recognition/sales whilst others (who are just as talented) just don't quite get those breaks (or miss them when they're there!). Moffatt was a really strong performer too - they play 2 quite long sets at the club (each one 45 mins to an hour) and she didn't look remotely tired at the end. She's one of those people who looks completely different on-stage too - bigger, stronger, more alive.
