A quick song

I'm working on an Adrian Mitchell post just now and hunting for some information I need to finish it. In the meantime please enjoy a little song I heard this week on the Mike Harding radio show on BBC R2. The band is The Humblebums (at this point Gerry Rafferty and Billy Connolly...the latter we were talking about back here) and the song is called 'Rick Rack' (from the 1969 album 'The New Humblebums'). Enjoy the song and enjoy your weekends, people.

Thanks for that. It's always such a joy to come to your blog (so civilised and full of good things), though I don't always feel qualified to comment.

As joy is one of my very favourite words Dave I will let you get away with any kind of comments! I often feel a bit unqualified (or just plain clueless) when I read your posts about visual art anyway. We can educate each other...bit by bit...

It is a lovely song. I keep just playing it and playing it!

Good song. I've seen seen a pic of such a young Billy Connolly for a long time.

Obviously, there should be a "not" in there. That'll learn me not to preview my comments :)

I loved it! (Joy) Didn't know the song at all. Really good. I found it a little Beatles-like but that's probably more to do with the era it came from than any particular influence.

I often feel unqualified to comment on some of Dave's more recent posts but I enjoy them nonetheless.

Glad you appreciate it too, Ken. I think it's a lovely innocent little thing of a song...and yes, quite Beatly (but then, unlike some, I do really like a lot of Beatles stuff).

As for the qualified/unqualified question...I think that's probably one thing that unites the folk who call by here (and me). We all have areas of something like expertise but then we are all looking to learn about other things too and we're not afraid to say 'I didn't know that'. I've learned lots via you visitors...and I hope to learn a lot more.

I've tagged you with a meme about influential writers, you can find out more on my blog, if you want to play along!

My machine is loading v e r y s l o w l y at the moment, so haven't heard the tune yet.

My mother used to see them in folk clubs in Greenock in the late 60s.

And the world is all the better for unqualified opinions. The more of them the better. Because where would we be if only experts told us what to think? :)

Oh, and I'm interested to read your thoughts on Ade....

I believe that tune will follow me into Monday...which isn't a bad thing. :)

Okay, stupid question. Is that the same Billy C. who is a comedian/actor?

Yes, Hope - same guy. If you haven't read the 'Billy' book by Pamela Connelly I think you might enjoy it. The second book isn't so interesting but the first one is a good read - and lots about his life in Scotland!
