Long nights

And so we await the election result...and all I can think about is that Nana Xmas Special of the 'Royle Family' from a couple of years ago (clip here - can't embed it). Just call me Barbara.

Night night.

I'm staying up all night. Got crisps, coffee and chocolate. And a big crush on David Dimbleby.

I won't be staying up all night but I do love watching the candidates expressions when they hear their results!

Dimbleby?!! nah I'm more of an Andrew Neil fan but I most definitely do not have a crush on him!

Yikes Sorlil. That hair/wig! It does look good at his party though...

But don't wish to spark another Mears/Grylls debate.

Oh Rachel, just came back to watch it and now I'm in tears. Never saw the series.
My mum's 83.

That was a magic episode, Barbara! Only saw it recently for the first time, made me cry - I'm a wooss like that.

If you're waiting up the result, T, you'll be up for days! As for fancying Dimbledore...well...can't think of a response to that.

I'm barely aware of the election this time, Sorlil, just too much else to get done. Mark is following it and Mum has the radio on (loud...) so I do know what's going on but it's hard to feel involved in any way right now. Andrew Neil? Terrifying...

As for the Royles...it is a show that can be SO dull (and I know people who don't watch it because it's too much like their real families) but every now and again it is really, really well done and this Xmas episode was one of those times. I watched that clip last night and roared with laughter one minute (all those questions and demands from Nana - tick) and then balled my eyes out the next. Genius (and great acting from the two women). I remember watching Liz Smith when I was a kid - mainly I think in a show called 'I didn't know you cared' though I don't remember much about it now.

Anyway, here we are, another day. No clear result in the election overall...but at least no huge Tory majority and the BNP vote down so I hear. That's all good. I just don't understand right wingers. Never have.

Asquith was right. He predicted that when women got the vote it would all boil down to who they fancied.

Rachel Fox said...

Deliberately provocative? After all the women above were talking about fancying TV presenters not politicians. But then maybe men don't need to bother with all that detail stuff. Well, some men anyway.

Just to clarify, I do not fancy Andrew Neil!!! But he amuses me greatly, what can I say I'm easily amused!

Oh no shug! If there's ever a vote for Poet Laureate and there is distaff enfranchisement, you're stuffed!

that is just a stunningly emotive piece of writing... shows Aherne/Cash at their best... their comedy has always been based around empathy... makes you proud to be a northerner!!!

Yes, having been in that situation I can now verify just how perfectly the writing (and acting) in this episode captures the feel of the real thing. All those little details - brilliant. And what's even more fascinating...I watched this special episode with my Mum when it was on back in 2006 and she laughed till tears ran down her face.

I thought it was a Xmas special but according to the net it was on in Oct 06. Maybe it was repeated at Xmas or something...
