OK – I made that up. There is no regular feature on any blog anywhere (that I know of) called Tango Sunday...it's not even Sunday yet...I just liked the name. Plus I have been reading the new novel by John Baker called 'Winged with Death' and it is filled to the margins with tango, tango and... more tango (the dance not the soft drink!). I finished the book yesterday and now I have to think of something interesting to write about it because I am due to be part of one of those virtual blog tours (my date 20th April). 'Winged with Death' is a very interesting and thought-provoking read but... it's school holidays...and Small Girl is now poorly with a tummy bug from hell (I thought we got off lightly this winter...)...and we are going to England for a week to visit family and old friends soon...and odd things keep happening (so what's new?)...and I keep getting more books to review...and I'm not even a book reviewer! If anyone else wants to read this particular book before 20th April it is a paperback, out now and published by Flambard Press. I notice that quite a few others are on John's virtual tour page. Interesting to see what we all make of it...
Anyway while I think about all that (and about a million other things...) please enjoy some very flippant-and-yet-tender tango from a different set of old friends (the cast of 'Frasier'). I know it's TV but it's very, very good TV (some beautiful lines, some fantastic facial expressions, some crucial cringes...). The 'Frasier' episode that made me laugh the most might just be the one where someone thinks Frasier's Dad Martin is gay...I laughed and laughed and laughed when I first saw it (it's called 'Out with Dad' series 7, episode 15) and it would probably make me laugh even more if I watched it now (if anything I find 'Frasier' funnier now we too are a multi-generational household). Anyway...back to the dancing...here's Tango Sunday...with Niles and Daphne and part of the 'Moon dance' episode (series 3, episode 13 – first one directed by Kelsey Grammar, apparently):
p.s. If you want to see the full ball scene it's here. I feel a chain of dance-related posts coming on...

I had forgotten all about that scene. Isn't it great? They really did an amazing job with the dance. Do you think Jane Leeves really swung her leg up like that?
Frasier was always one of the best sitcoms ever to grace the small screen.
Kat
Well, she was a dancer first wasn't she (on Benny Hill so they always say).
Yes, I had given up on TV altogether and stopped watching...somewhere in the 1990s. It was partly 'Frasier' (and Mark who is a big fan of it) who got me back in front of TV from time to time. I still don't watch a huge amount...though I suspect a box set of 'Frasier' (or whatever they have by then) might have to be part of my twilight year entertainment...if I make it that far.

We have a Frasier box set that we dig into now and again when there's nothing to watch. I've come to love it but it was a slow enough process for me. At first I thought it was too clever for its own good. Then I realised it was 90% pure Vaudeville. :)
I'm not sure about 90%...maybe 50.
And too clever...no, never! It's genius...possibly the best ever sitcom I think (and what a traitor I am...think of all the great British sitcoms... but how many managed episode after episode after episode like 'Frasier'...OK more money around perhaps...). I love all the episodes where Dad gets the Winnebago...those 2 'boys' having to leave their fancy cars and go along for the ride...beautiful!

Ah, they don't make 'em like that any more... *sigh* more's the pity.
You've got Tango Sunday -what will next Sunday hold in store..?
Hopefully no sick buckets! And Yorkshire...we'll be down with the hoards by then! I said hoards...

Yes, Carrie and I have both read the book now - she managed it in two sittings but it took me a week - and she's got my review to proofread today. It was an interesting read and I really didn't know where to start but of course once I did start I didn't know where to stop.
Ramblers anonymous application form in the post, Jim.

Ah, I loved Niles. :) This was probably one of my favorite episodes..thank you for that!
Yep, I think you should be in charge of entertainment on Sundays. Hope Small Girl [and you as her nursemaid] feels better soon!
I loved them all, Hope...Roz, particularly I think, for reasons I won't go into now.
SG is improving. It was a bad day yesterday though!

Oh love it! Frasier was a favourite when we had a television, and the dance scene, wow.
Perhaps there *should* be a Tango Sunday! Anyhow, I'll look forward to your post on the blog tour. Good luck with the sickies and the travelling, meanwhile!
Hope she feels better soon, what a rotten start to the hols.
Yes, Susan, although Tango Tuesday has more of a ring to it...
And Sorlil...yes, she's pretty fed up. Only good thing it was this week and not next when we're away! Managing sickness (and worse..) in a rented holiday place...never desirable!
xx
Frasier was so well written. I was so sad when it ended, it was like saying goodbye to a member of the family. Thanks for the reminder of how brilliant it was. I am enjoying your blog, by the way and am just going off to read some more!
The last episode was odd too. But then I suppose it was bound to be...after such a long series.
