What with the school holidays and all I have been a bit slow at getting my book to Amazon but it's there now (and discounted...of course!). It's on the .co.uk not the .com.
So I'm there, I'm cheap and I'm available 24 hours a day!

p.s. If it says 'out of stock' (which it will say from time to time...) you can still buy. It's just because it's a new set-up and all it means is I have to send them more copies...which is good because it means someone is buying them already! If it was you...thanks. Heck, that was a rambly explanation even for me!

It's a lovely lovely book and as soon as I get it back from the nice person who borrowed it(!) I'm going to write a nice review thingie about it!
I look forward to it!

Rachel, those are some lovely reviews on Amazon UK. You and I seem to have a similar approach to poetry i.e., not taking it too seriously, but striving to write it well nonetheless. I have read your wedding poem and I was totally in tune with your attitude.
Perhaps (if I ever make some money myself), I can have a copy shipped over the pond.

Kat...it's a weird business...in some ways I would say I don't take 'it' seriously...but in others...the complete opposite. On some days, in some ways it is everything, absolutely everything to me, the only thing I've ever done and I would kill with my bare hands anyone who suggested it was anything other than vital that I write my next poem...and then other days...it's just a few poems, I have people to look after, it's a big old world, who cares about what I've done... I'm just one of those racing-from-one-extreme-to-the-other-type -people I suppose!
Plus I take the jokey poems like 'Wedding' every bit as seriously as the the more obviously serious ones. That wedding poem means a lot to me - glad you like it.

Good reviews, Rachel and it's nice to see your book available on Amazon. Maybe we should try a book swap ;)
Great minds we are. Barbara...I was thinking of asking you the same thing!

I can't see an email on your page, Barbara, but mine is author@crowd-pleasers.net
Email me your address and I'll send you mine.

Anyone else wanting book swaps or such like...all offers considered!
rachel I've deleted all my contacts by mistake. Could you send me your address again to steamboatsmcmillan@hotmail.com so that the hedge can be sent? Sorry for interrupting.
Rachel, I must clarify: my intention was not to suggest that we don't take our poetry seriously--far from it! What I mean is that our subject matter oftentimes is not of a serious nature.
Despite this, I take every poem I write seriously and view this work as vital every time I put pen to paper.
I should have been more clear from the outset.
Kat
No harm done, Kat! I didn't mean to sound like I was indignant or anything...maybe just a little overcautious. It's a delicate situation the whole serious/not serious question!
I write both deadly serious and deadly humorous poems and I view them all as part of a whole (comedy/tragedy...it's not exactly a new idea!). You might be surprised (in UK poetry at least) how often one type of poetry is seen as superior to another though (same goes for academic/intellectual vs spoken word etc.). To my mind that keeps poetry (in the wider perception) as a limited artform instead of letting people see and hear what a great big all-encompassing beast it really is! And that's not a great use of language but you know I'm working on being a poet not an essayist!..here's a poem that says it better...
The complete picture
You may find the words I write trite
I may find yours soporific
You may hate my poems… ‘lite’
I may think yours monolithic
But could we still be friends, do you think?
We both believe in word and line
You can stick to all your habits
I won’t mind, I’ll stick to mine
You can have the thick thesaurus
I will listen on the bus
We will write the complete picture
Somewhere, somehow, all of us

Well put. There is a decided snobbery in some realms. I WAS educated at university and have absorbed the classical angle by osmosis, BUT, I do love a good rhyme and find blank verse advocates tend to snub it.
Having said that, I try my hand at blank verse as well, and do write some damn serious stuff when the mood takes me.
It is not solely in the UK that there is a hierarchy amongst poems - and poets. I'm not out to compete - I simply HAVE to do it.
Kat
You might like some of the poems in the 'writing' section of my website

There is one ('Poetry places please') that contains the line
'I went to academia (but it never came to me)'...
There are so many different types of clever!

You know you've made it when your book is available on amazon! congrats!
Thanks Sorlil...except you know one has to pay for the privilege! It's a bit weird but I've used Amazon a lot myself in the past (especially for xmas shopping!) so I'm hoping for some payback now...
I did enjoy it very much, Rachel. It is just how I feel over here. A degree in English Lit does not a Literature-writer make. I come from humble beginnings and Irish roots. Somewhere inside is a seanachie, BUT she's far too lazy to write stories. Poetry has the immediacy that I prefer, and it's "the song" that does play in my head - constantly.
It's nice to know there are like minds out there.
Kat
I wrote a set of stories a while back...keep meaning to post the link to them but it needs updating or something (must ask tech support about that). I enjoyed writing them but found I could just never stop editing them and it drove me a bit crazy! Poems seem to get finished better...I find writing them suits my mind better...or something like that!
As for that song...on and on it goes...on and on...
Yes, excellent reviews, it should do well. Hope it does. Can't not buy it, can we?
Good idea, Dave. I think.
