Happy and new

I know it's a while yet till Hogmanay but I thought I'd link to my New Year poem ahead of time. It's called 'Happy new hope' and I put it on my MySpace blog so you can read it there if you like (or it's on my website under 'occasions'...or it was on the Herald blog in early January of this year...just for complete overkill!). Is that enough? No, it's a postcard too (just email me if you don't have one and would like one or two sent over for nowt...special offer for this week only). I've only written one or two sonnets but this one has been a hardworking little poem for me...maybe I'll write some more this year.

More rambling soon, I'm sure. I will be writing a bit about New Year's resolutions I think. In a couple of days time...

p.s. Speaking of the Herald..I've particularly enjoyed Diana Hendry's poems on the blog there in the past couple of weeks (especially this one). I like Hendry's work more and more...a purchase coming up in 2009 I think.

I like the poem, Rachel, it's true it is all most definitely about Hope...that wee poem has certainly earned its keep then! : )

Hi Rachel. Hope you enjoyed Christmas. Your book was a great success in Dominic's stocking - funnily enough he nearly bought one for me!! That would have been a surfeit as you sent me two for the price of one!! Howeve,r we both love your poems. Happy New Year.

Yes, Liz, some poems earn their keep, some just lie around eating all the chocolates and watching old films on TV...

Happy New Year to you and yours, friendly Weaver! Who knows what we'll all get up to in 2009?

All the best for the new year and, for you and yours, may it be "that good things are to come"!

Thanks Sorlil. There's a Chinese proverb on my kitchen calendar this month (luckily not in Chinese!). It goes 'if I keep a green bough in my heart, the singing bird will come.'

Oh that's lovely!

Yes, I thought so too. I've been looking at it all month and I like it so much I may cut it out and stick it on next year's calendar to keep me company all year!

A short one for you. I remember reading this poem before - it's a wee gem.

"Life's switches may be always out to dim us" - I like this line the best. You've really hit the nail on the head.
I am uplifted by the work and now look forward to the coming year.

Yes, we had a dimmer switch in our house in Yorkshire and it always fascinated me. Can't quite explain why.
Glad you like the poem anyway. It didn't make it into the book although I did consider it for the last section.
